Following the sale of the Manitowoc ice machine business, the acquisition of Welbilt by Ali Group is now complete.
Ali Holding S.r.l. ("Ali Group"), is one of the largest and most diversified global leaders in foodservice equipment. Now the Welbilt Group is also part of the company's powerful portfolio. Ali Group is paying approximately $3.5 billion for the acquisition.
"The completion of this transaction is an important milestone in Ali Group's history and marks the beginning of our next growth chapter," said Filippo Berti, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ali Group. "Welbilt brings a rich heritage, a talented team and industry-leading foodservice solutions to Ali Group. With new scale, an enhanced global footprint and a highly complementary and comprehensive portfolio of top brands across the foodservice value chain, we are well positioned to successfully capitalise on the significant growth opportunities ahead."
Ice cream machine business sold to Pentair
To make the transaction possible, it had previously been necessary to sell Welbilt's ice machine business to Pentair. The water solutions specialist acquired the Manitowoc and Koolaire brands, as well as manufacturing facilities in the US, Mexico and China, for $1.6 billion.
Founded in 1963, Ali Group is an Italian company with headquarters in Milan and North American operations in Chicago, Illinois. Through its subsidiaries, the company, with approximately 14,000 employees in 34 countries, designs, manufactures, markets and services a wide range of foodservice equipment used in major restaurant and hotel chains as well as independent restaurants, hospitals, schools, airports, correctional facilities and cafeterias.
The acquisition brought the number of global brands under the Ali Group umbrella to 95, with 75 manufacturing facilities in 17 countries and sales and service offices throughout Europe, North and South America, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
New management appointments
"Kevin's experience, in both the cold and hot segments of the foodservice industry, makes him the ideal choice to lead Welbilt into the future," Filippo Berti commented on the appointment.
